FAQs

What is the difference between a Kinesiologist and a Personal Trainer?

Typically but not always a Personal Trainer has a diploma or certification and a Kinesiologist has a 4 year degree. As a Certified Personal Trainer and a Kinesiologist the different levels of training become important when you are targeting different things.

For example, if you want to train strength or you are going to run a marathon, a personal trainer can help keep you motivated, plan your training, and progress as necessary.

If you want to go a little deeper, let’s say you are not able to squat as deep because one hip can’t get down as far, or when running one shin turns outward and has some pain, a Kinesiologist specializes in anatomy, physiology and biomechanics and they can get down to the foundation of why that movement pattern is occurring and show you how to change it, so you can get back on track.

How do I know if Need one or the other?

Typically if you want to improve strength, change body composition, increase performance, work on cardio, hit your max bench, then a personal trainer is a good choice as they have the training to help you reach those goals.

However, if you have chronic pain, previous injuries that are still causing you issues, want to do performance or fitness testing, have just had or will have a surgery, or have multiple complex health issues that are overlapping your training, then a Kinesiologist is a good choice as they have the education and training to make sure that you are working with the safety parameters and within evidence based protocols.

Am I locked in to training programs with you?

NOPE. I offer a 30 min free consultation, where we chat about your goals and see if we are a good fit. If that’s a go then we start with an assessment and a medical history and we go from there. I don’t sell packages or lock clients into long term commitments.

What if I have no gym experience?

That’s totally fine. No experience necessary.

What if I don’t like the gym?

If you prefer, we can do a mobile or tele-health appointment, where I meet you at a location you prefer, online, or we can have the session in the privacy of your own home. Movement and exercise are not limited to a gym facility or clinic.

How often do I need to Train or do my Home Plan to see results?

The research states that it takes for body composition (how you look) approx 8-weeks and for metabolic characteristic or cardiorespiratory (how well you use oxygen for energy) approx 12-weeks.

It is recommended that you achieve 15o minutes of exercise per week for health benefits. Which means 3x per week for 1 hour approximately.

What happens if I want to take a break or become independent with my Training?

This is all based on your goals and your timeline. If you would like to take a break or work towards independence I will do my best to ensure that when the time comes you are well equipped with the tools to continue moving forward on your own journey.

What should i wear?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows for movement. For most classes, athletic wear is perfect. Bring a bottle of water, and if you like a small towel.

What are the benefits of Mindfulness and meditation?

Regular mindfulness and meditation practice can reduce stress, improve focus, enhance emotional regulation, and promote relaxation. These practices also have been shown to improve physical health by lowering blood pressure and boosting immune function.
